Welcome to the Seattle Flexible Carpooling home page!
Many people are working to bring flexible carpooling to Seattle. Our local implementation partner is Commuter Challenge, a long time supporter of better commuting in Seattle.
The legislature recently (April 2009) approved a flexible carpooling project for Seattle. The following is what the budget provision says:
“(4) $400,000 of the multimodal transportation account—state appropriation is provided solely for a grant for a flexible carpooling pilot project program to be administered and monitored by the department. Funds are appropriated for one time only. The pilot project program must: Test and implement at least one flexible carpooling system in a high-volume commuter area that enables carpooling without prearrangement; utilize technologies that, among other things, allow for transfer of ride credits between participants; and be a membership system that involves pre-screening to ensure safety of the participants. The program must include a pilot project that targets commuter traffic on the state route number 520 bridge. The department shall submit to the legislature by December 2010 a report on the program results and any recommendations for additional flexible carpooling programs.”
We are now awaiting advice from the department (WSDOT) about how this grant will be administered.

- Tell us what would be the best route for the first flexible carpooling implementation in Seattle, bearing in mind that it must cross the SR 520 bridge.
- Print off our flyer and put it on your notice board. Ask others to support your route or suggest their own.
